It was agreed that the automotive businesses of Hotchkiss and Amilcar would be merged and the prototype would be developed into an Amilcar model that would become the Amilcar Compound. Most specialized in what was known as the sporting voiturette, a small car that put performance ahead of creature comforts. The most successful of these, by far, was Amilcar, launched in 1920 from the remnants of light car builder Le Zèbre through the backing of financiers Emil Akar and Joseph Lamy.
