During the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a significant increase in patients with stress cardiomyopathy, also known as broken heart syndrome, new research by Cleveland Clinic cardiologists shows. Broken heart syndrome is also known as stress cardiomyopathy or takotsubo syndrome. Symptoms are similar to a heart attack and occur when a person experiences severe emotional or physical stress.
